Q.
Is Seacurefill™ a patented product?
A. Yes. Seacurefill™ was patented on May 29,
2001. The patent number is 6,237,645. Click for
patent excerpts.
Q.
Does Seacurefill™ work on boats of all sizes?
A. Seacurefill™ was designed to work no matter the size
of the boat for which it is being used. The only
variable is the size of the fuel recovery container or the
width of the hose used to direct the excess fuel. Your
particular boat may need containers or other apparatus' that
are slightly different depending on the size of your
particular boat, however, Seacurefill™
has all the variations covered in our product specifications.
Q.
Does Seacurefill™ work on boats that
have more than one gas tank?
A. Yes. You'll need one for each tank.
Q.
Does Seacurefill™ work on boats that use
Diesel fuel instead of regular gasoline?
A. Yes.
Q.
What size do I need to buy?
A. Just measure the diameter of your fuel fill top that
you take off to fill your tank. It will be either 1 1/2"
in diameter, standard for most boats, or 2" in diameter for
largest boats.
Q.
Why does fuel often "belch" back up the fill?
A. This happens because long vent lines, dips and
loops, and overboard vents with fire propagation
# 30 screens all create resistance which
results in inadequate venting. Without adequate venting ,air
in the tank being displaced by the incoming fuel cannot escape
fast enough out the vent. The resulting back pressure causes
fuel and air to be burped and belched back out the fuel fill.
Seacurefill's deck unit improves venting by eliminating these
problems.
Q.
Why is fuel forced out the vent before it
backs up the fill?
A. The fuel and entrapped air rushing down the fill
pipe prevent air from escaping back up fuel pipe. Air, foam
and fuel are forced to flow out the tank vent line. This
is true even if the vent is located higher than the fuel fill.
If the "operator" doesn't stop fueling when fuel comes into Seacurefill QuickConnect
hose (or out the vent) pressure may build in the tank until it
overcomes the fuel flow resulting in air and fuel backing up the fill
pipe.
Q.
Does the fuel in the Seacurefill QuickConnect hose return to
the fuel tank?
A. Yes. If the "operator" stops fueling, the
small amount of fuel in the Seacurefill QuickConnect hose will run
back into the fuel tank. The fuel and entrapped air pouring
into the tank create a "hole" in the surface of the fuel in
the tank which allows room for the fuel to return. The
best example of this phenomena is filling a bucket of water
with a hose. The pressure of the water pouring out the hose
creates a hole in the surface of the water in the bucket.
